Looking Your Best: How to Edit Your Headshot Photo and Get the Job

A great headshot photo can influence a potential employer to invite you to an interview or offer you the job.

If your job search isn’t going too well or if you’re having trouble landing an interview, you might want to take a look at your headshot and consider spicing things up a bit. That doesn’t mean you have to invest in camera equipment or special lighting, however. Instead, you should learn how to edit headshot photos.

Editing a headshot photo significantly increases the visual appeal, making you, as a candidate, stand out and look more professional. Still, there’s a fine line between just the right amount of touch-ups or too much editing.

To find out how to edit a headshot for your professional online profiles, keep reading!

Nobody wants to see an excess of white space or background in your photo. On the other hand, nobody wants to see just your face taking up the entire frame.

Cropping is crucial when it comes to making a headshot look professional, clean, and well-thought-out. Your photo should be cropped so that your entire head, neck, and a small portion of your shoulders are showing; this is generally what potential employers are looking for so that they can get a sense of who you are.

Keep backgrounds plain and simple, or even better, remove it completely and replace it with a more professional backdrop online. Here’s how to remove background online and score that job.

Filters make or break your headshots. Subtle filters that enhance your skin tone, the clothes you’re wearing, and your hair are definitely good, but some filters show up too vividly.

When applying filters, less is more. Select a filter that softly enhances your photo! Warmer filters will make you appear more friendly, while cooler-toned filters will make you appear more professional and serious. It’s completely up to your discretion!

Touching Up

Lots of photo editing software and apps allow users to touch up their photos. This means that you can slightly alter your headshot appearance to make you appear more put together and cohesive.

Make sure to remove any stray hairs, fuzz or spots on your clothes, and slightly whiten your teeth with a touch-up feature. If you’re up to it, you can even whiten the whites of your eyes to appear more alert and awake, and deepen the color of your lips and cheeks.

The key is to be sure to keep things subtle; you don’t want to seem like you’re trying too hard because this will turn employers away.

Now You Can Edit Headshot Photos Like a Pro

Your online professional profiles speak volumes about who you are as a potential job candidate. If you want to convey that you’re the right person for the job, you’ll definitely need to edit headshot photos the right way.

Now that you know editing corporate headshots doesn’t have to be difficult try it out for yourself and admire the before and after. Good luck with your interview!
