INTRODUCTION
General Motors (GM) has a rich history in hydrogen fuel cell technology dating back nearly 60 years, transferring NASA Apollo space mission learning to the very first fuel cell powered automotive concept vehicle – the 1966 Electrovan. Today, GM’s Global Fuel Cell Business is creating clean energy solutions for a gamut of commercial vehicle segments as well as non-traditional, non-automotive land, sea, and air applications, including stationary power and hydrogen energy storage.

OVERVIEW

The VDDV Fuel Cell FE/NVH Analysis Engineer is responsible for leading the analysis of the design, development, and validation of fuel cell (FC) systems. Utilizing FE/NVH simulation, optimization and statistical methods, the VDDV FC engineer will deliver new technical insights that optimize FC design and provide results and technical consultation to the FC structural DRE engineers. The candidate will also provide requirements for improvements to advance simulation and validation techniques. The candidate will be involved with the latest FC technologies and working with a high-performance team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Operate Unigraphics models of Fuel Cell/Engine/Transmission/Electric Drive Unit components, tetrahedral/hexahedral modeling

Identify and confirm model set-up and boundary conditions, execute analysis and post-process analysis results

Identify and confirm model set-up and boundary conditions, execute analysis and post-process analysis results

Utilize UG skills to design, develop, and validate Fuel cell systems through FE/NVH analysis as required

Support structures DREs to ensure that their components meet program imperatives

Provide design recommendation to Design Responsible Engineer based on the interpretation of FE/NVH analysis results

Lead problem resolution activities for structural components within the Fuel Cell and interfacing structures

Generate technical solutions for complex design problems in current, new, and major programs

Participate in product design and development team meetings and regularly present analysis results/reports

Document analysis objectives, results, conclusions, and assumptions as report

Transfer knowledge and best practices from Body Engineering to Fuel Cell Engineering

Support Program Management and report-outs per EGM direction

Additional Job Description

REQUIRED SKILLS

B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering

5+ Years’ experience with FE/NVH simulation and analysis

Experience with design and integration of structural components

Proficient computer skills including analyzing data, creating presentations

Understanding of engineering theory and principles of automotive energy storage fuel cell systems

High level of analytical ability where problems are complex

Time management skills to meet agreed upon customer deliverables, able to manage multiple projects

Interpersonal styles and communication skills to work effectively with local and international team members

Technical writing ability to create written engineering evaluation reports

Ability to read, interpret and generate engineering drawings and specifications

Good experience in conducting dynamic and NVH analysis.

Experience with Unigraphics NX/VisMockup and Structural analysis

Proficient in preprocessors such as Hypermesh, Simlab.

Proficient in Solver such as Optistruct, Nastran, and ABAQUS

Knowledge of Fatigue and Acoustics

Basic knowledge of Fuel Cell/Engine/Transmission/Electric Drive Unit

Strong written and oral communication skills

PREFERRED SKILLS

Master’s Degree in Engineering

High voltage or electrified vehicle safety training and hands on work experience

5+ Years’ experience with a major automotive OEM

5+ Years’ experience with design and integration of structural components

DFSS Black Belt Certification
