Suncast is rapidly expanding and continues to experience record growth due to strong demand for our innovative products.The Senior Design Engineer is responsible for new product development for both new and existing products while working in a cross functional team. This position will:Lead design efforts for transforming Industrial Design concepts into functional and manufacturable products while following a stage gate process.Develop multiple concepts for each project and supports brainstorming activities and the navigation of patent landscape to achieve design targets.Verifydesigns using data driven methods and functional testing. Designs and performs experiments for verification and testing. Supports manufacturing implementation of designs.Ensure the product meets or exceeds expectations from a cost, timing and specification standpoint.RESPONSIBILITIES: Examines program success requirements and drives path forward to achieve success in most timely and cost-effective manner. Develop project timelines and manage adherence to project deliverables.Leads the creation of master, skeleton, and kinematic models with moderately complex surfaces to ensure appropriate design.Demonstrates a working knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials to ensure designs are specified as best cost.Demonstrates working knowledge of manufacturing tolerances and capability to apply six sigma tolerance analyses to basic computer aided design (CAD) assemblies.Uses rapid prototyping to validate design concepts and identifies additional methods to accelerate validation.Applies design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) to improve product concepts.Understands the parameters and functionality of Moldflow and finite element analysis (FEA) and is able to perform limited analyses.Provides heavy testing and compliance support, working autonomously or on project teams with minimal guidance to complete required project validation.Reviews project proposals cross-functionally to develop technical project specifications.Recommends specific competitive products for benchmarking and reviews the results to gain competitive understanding.Participates in technical design reviews to ensure products are designed to specifications and will meet product safety requirements.Implements existing testing methodologies on a program level to conduct product validation.Examines problems with a disciplined approach and uses the appropriate methodology to analyze and determine the preferred solution to technical challenges.Reviews test results summaries and recommends action plans to improve product design.Directs the development of optimal product test plans to ensure robust product safety performance.Prepares testing summary to manager with mitigation plans (if required) to communicate testing status and compliance activities.Investigates popular point of view when necessary to provide alternative recommendations.Translates complex technical concepts in simple, clear language appropriate to the audience to gain cross-functional alignment.Presents emerging compliance requirements to product development team to ensure awareness and understanding of the regulatory landscapeDevelops a network of technical resources to extend knowledge base and strengthen overall design.Understands technical business requirements and level of support needed within a segment to fully execute projects.Works within cross-company collaboration and develops positive relationships with other engineering disciplines and other Suncast functions, such as product management, sales, manufacturing, and marketing to support needs.REQUIREMENTS: 4-year Bachelor of Science degree in an appropriate engineering discipline (a bachelor of applied science degree will NOT be accepted) from an accredited institution in the U.S. or a comparable foreign university.Minimum of 7 Years of product development experienceHigh level of expertise in solid modeling (SolidWorks preferred).Strong mechanical aptitude.Good conceptualization, visualization and creativity.Demonstrates strong Project Management skills (stage gate experience preferred).Demonstrates excellent communication tools both written and verbal.Ability to thrive in a team & collaborative environment.Good time management, prioritization & analytical problem solving.Ability to perform detail-oriented work with high degree of accuracy.Excellent design experience with plastics, sheet metal, metal castings (Die and sand) with knowledge of material specs and use.Knowledge & experience of GD&T requiredKnowledge of tools (FMEA, DOE, FEA, 8D etc) requiredComplies with record-keeping and file sharing conventions.Adaptable, able to adjust to ongoing changes and improvements.Experience with assemblies and mechanisms.Good understanding of manufacturing processes.Job Type: Full-timeBenefits:401(k)401(k) matchingDental insuranceHealth insuranceHealth savings accountLife insurancePaid time offVision insuranceSchedule:Monday to FridayWork Location: One location |
