What You’ll Get to Do:
Own prototyping and R&D lab technician resourcing function in the Photonic Solutions Business Unit whose typical product includes complex photonic, opto-electronic, electrical, and mechanical subsystems.
Own the prototyping and R&D lab support technician resourcing function by:
Defining and overseeing prototype production and R&D lab support practices with the goal of establishing mature process that enable quality solutions and products and allow AS9100 certification. Recommend and implement process improvements, where needed. Establish and maintain an infrastructure needed for efficient prototyping production.
Providing prototyping and R&D lab support resources to ensure support of contract and IR&D work
Providing leadership in hiring and collaborating with the Recruiting Manager to seek out new avenues for recruiting technical staff
Ensuring team training and career growth by providing training plans and mentoring.
Lead the capture of new business by:
Interacting with potential customers in defining cost, schedule, technical, and programmatic needs for prototype production
Leading the proposal team in developing cost, schedule, and technical proposals
Contribute to program technical management by:
Technically leading government contracts with significant prototyping or low volume production content, to include employee staffing, oversight of technical development, contractual oversight and programmatic functions.
Coordinating with program managers on prototyping or low volume production approach. Develop cost and schedule commitments that align with customer requirements
Managing staff member assignments within program budgets
Leading project team meetings and facilitate tracking/completion of action items
Managing technical issues identified by team members and customers, defining resolution plan and managing team to provide solutions in a timely manner
Lead by example with respect to all matters related to ethics, compliance, and security
Travel to other LGS Locations or Customer Sites as necessary
Proactively ensure a safe work environment and adhere to LGS EH&S policies and procedures
Perform other duties as required
If required, obtain/retain a government security clearance at the level to perform the job
You’ll Bring These Qualifications:
Experience leading or making strong technical contributions to highly multidisciplinary projects
Experience in the design and development of complex photonic and/or electronic products
Demonstrated success with internal and external customer oral and written communications
Demonstrated commitment to customer mission and program success
Proficient use of computer-aided design and analysis software, with SolidWorks strongly preferred. Working knowledge of finite element modeling.
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of 5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education, skills, and experience.
Master’s degree preferred
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
Experience in electronic subassembly layout including board physical design, chassis or enclosure design, optical fiber routing, and electrical and optical connector selection.
Experience in the design of high-power optical fiber amplifiers and transmitters.
Experience in the design of hardware to military and space design standards and manufacturing processes.
Experience in environmental testing to MIL-STD or equivalent industrial test levels, including shock, vibration, thermal, and EMI/EMC.
