GM HYDROTEC Fuel Cell Design Integration Engineering- a multidisciplinary, cross-functional team responsible for designing and developing GM’s HYDROTEC Fuel Cell systems. This team of skilled and experienced GM Fuel Cell Engineers works in close partnership with Honda counterparts in the US and in Japan. GM is partnered with Hondato combine each company’s fuel cell technical strengths and to share development and production investments. Our HYDROTEC Fuel Cell Virtual Design, Development and Validation (VDDV) Team is helping to develop today’s and tomorrow’s fuel cell systems with capability and flexibility to meet a wide range of scalable, zero emissions applications. The GM Fuel Cell – VDDV CFD Analysis Engineer is responsible for leading the analysis of the design, development, and validation of fuel cell (FC) systems. Utilizing CFD optimization and statistical methods, the VDDV FC engineer will deliver new technical insights that optimize FC design and provide results and technical consultation to the FC thermal and water management engineers. The candidate will also provide requirements for improvements to advance simulation and validation techniques. The candidate will be involved with the latest FC technologies and work with a high-performance team. Primary Responsibilities: Conduct CFD studies to support product development in Fuel Cells involving flow, thermal, and multi-phase simulations Conduct Fuel Cell thermal analysis and work closely with fuel cell design team to integrate thermal and water management and its impact on design and durability under different applications, driving cycles, and ambient conditions Provide recommendations for product and/or process improvements based on analysis results Provide requirements for improvements to advanced simulation activities to include CFD, Thermal, Structural and Multi-Physics Develop and coordinate Fuel Cell CFD verification and validation activities Effectively communicate findings to internal/external customers using appropriate media Meet or exceed deadlines for structured product development timelines, quality, and cost Collaborate with broader engineering team for structured design integration, new proposals, problem solving, and system optimization Participate in benchmarking activities Use standardized methods to execute assigned analysis projects, document analysis results and prepare the reports Support non-standard walk-up work/ new capability development as per the organization’s requirement Additional Job Description Required Skills and Experience: Bachelor Degree in Engineering 2+ years of experience with CFD analysis Direct experience applying 1D or 3D CFD tools to propulsion-related systems Experience with the latest CFD visualization techniques Experience in using UG NX High level of oral and written communication skills Knowledge in Engineering and Computational and Fluid Dynamics, Heat Transfer, Thermodynamics, and Numerical Methods Highly proficient with Microsoft Office products High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult Preferred Skills and Experience: Master’s Degree in Engineering 5+ years of experience with CFD analysis Proficient with STAR-CCM+ CFD software Experience with CFD optimization tools Familiarity or practical experience with the principles of vehicle propulsion system design, operation, or testing Experience with programming in Java, Python or equivalent languages Linux experience About GM Our vision is a world with Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions and Zero Congestion and we embrace the responsibility to lead the change that will make our world better, safer and more equitable for all.
