Job Description : Job Description The Controls System Engineer is responsible for program execution for Paint Process Controls and/or Conveyor Controls. Work is performed in a centralized manufacturing engineering activity or assembly/plant activity where a considerable amount of creativity and initiative is exercised as well as a high level of independent judgment. Job Responsibilities: Paint Process Controls and/or Conveyor Controls lead for new programs New program implementation and execution such as Statement of Requirements (SOR) preparation, forecasting, paint process and/or conveyor controls design, equipment build/run-off and buyoff Design, construction, integration, plant installation, successful launch and continuous improvement of Paint Shop equipment and systems Provide technical direction and guidance to outside vendor sources Manage deliveries to program timing milestones Provide project reports to senior management Existing program/site support (troubleshooting, etc.) Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with all customers/plants Create, maintain, and improve Paint controls standardized work, processes, and procedures Audit Paint Controls implementation for alignment to standards Provide technical direction to other Controls engineers Design and troubleshooting of electrical controls systems and error proofing systems Work may involve development and testing of advanced process technology Travel as required Additional Job Description Minimum Requirements: 3+ years of experience as a paint process controls and/or conveyor controls engineer Strong technical knowledge of electrical/control systems and the ability to apply these concepts within a manufacturing environment Demonstrated basic understanding of mechanical concepts involving machine designs, process requirements involved in the manufacturing process Experience in PLC and HMI programming, Ethernet and/or Devicenet networks Knowledge of motion control and drives Ability to design and trouble shoot electrical controls systems Excellent level of analytical ability Communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships with team members and customers to solve problems and resolve issues Ability to manage multiple challenging projects and assignments with high level of autonomy and accountability for results Demonstrates initiative by reaching beyond work assigned to improve output and/or help others Ability to use computer, interpret blueprints, engineering drawings and learn new systems Strong project management skills Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree with major in engineering or equivalent experience/training Knowledge of plant floor work and systems in Paint Shops Experience with Global Production Monitoring and Controls (GPM&C), and Production Routing and Tracking (PR&T) Prior work experience as a Paint Shop controls engineer in the automotive field Knowledge of GM’s common global controls architecture About GM Our vision is a world with Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions and Zero Congestion and we embrace the responsibility to lead the change that will make our world better, safer and more equitable for all.
