Position Overview Plans, coordinates and supervises the production operations and maintenance activities and other related functions involved in plant operations. Assists the Plant Manager in incorporating directives provided by corporate management into plant policies and procedures so as to maintain appropriate standards and schedules. Assists the Terminal Managers in their maintenance needs. Uses independent judgment in making routine plant decisions. Works from general policies and procedures. Refers to supervisor when clarification or interpretation of the organizational policy is needed. Exercises direct or indirect supervision overall plant production and maintenance employees, some of whom occupy lower- and mid-level management positions. May also exercise direct or indirect supervision of other plant employees as assigned by the Plant Manager. In the absence of the Plant Manager assumes direct and indirect supervision for all plant employees. Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions) Establishes, communicates, and assigns job responsibilities, goals, and performance standards for employees within supervisory responsibility. Provides feedback, addresses performance barriers and evaluates performance recommending merit and promotional increases. Monitors inspects and reviews all plant operations and conducts meetings with plant departmental personnel to communicate, coordinate and discuss plant operations to include all plant areas. Collaborates with Plant Manager on any problems/concerns that arise with schedules, maintenance, quality control, staffing and personnel issues. Conducts labor relations meetings, handles second step grievances and union negotiations as directed by Plant Manager. Ensures production and maintenance schedules correspond with forecast sales. Meets with community groups as needed. At the direction of the Plant manager meets with various government agencies pertaining to compliance with regulations, policies and standards. Promotes the safety program, enforces compliance with safety standards, conducts and/or participates in safety meetings. Assists Plant Manager in all areas of plant budget planning and cost analysis while identifying and explaining any major (+/-10%) deviations. As Plant Manager directs, reviews and approves requisitions and invoices in addition to completing any company reports per corporate guidelines. Assists the Plant Manager in establishing plant standards, short-term goals and long-term strategic plans regarding production, maintenance, improvements, etc. and discusses new products, equipment and ideas with staff and vendors. Assists Plant Chemist in developing alternative raw materials sources and negotiating those contracts. Other Requirements Proficient in English written and verbal communication skills Strong verbal communication and listening skills Possesses strong product knowledge Excellent collaboration and team building skills including leadership, negotiation, and strategic planning Demonstrates excellent judgment and decision making skills Ability to inspire and develop staff Builds and manages effective teams Knowledge of all aspects of plant operations including the manufacturing process, equipment utilized, environmental regulations, union strategy, labor contracts, computer operations, quality controls, safety guidelines and quarry operations. Experience 10 years of experience in a cement manufacturing facility with specific exposure to production processes, maintenance, quality control and plant management responsibilities. Licenses and Certifications Professional Engineer (PE) (Preferred) Education Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or chemistry preferred.
